Stop Feeling Guilty and Start Listening to Your Body

If you woke up late this morning, or you need to take a midday nap, please do so. It’s your body telling you what it needs.

I didn’t get up this morning until 10:45 am and instead of self-flagellating as I usually would do, I actually thought to myself, my body needs this.

I am the former editor in chief of Women’s Health, and I was told by countless experts during that time that your body’s going to tell you what it needs. But I didn’t really believe it until leaving the corporate world and actually watching my body recalibrate in real time to what it needs and listening to it instead of saying, “Oh, I’m lazy. Or oh, I got to do this. Or oh, what’s wrong with me?”

Nothing’s wrong. What’s wrong is all the years of like go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go and never having a moment to rest. So if you didn’t wake up till 9, 10, 11, whatever it is this morning, or you need to go to bed early, or you need to take a rest in the middle of the day, please do so. It’s your body talking to you. It’s you fulfilling your needs.

And guess what that is: productivity.
