I’m going to tell you why eyeliner is the secret to better mental health. Okay? No, I’m not, because it’s not. Nothing is the secret to better mental health outside of having the best connections ever and working a job with purpose and having enough money to afford food and all of the basic things.

But I am going to tell you why eyeliner actually does help. It’s a mental trick. I put on eyeliner, I think to myself, I’m going to use this eyeliner to define me tonight. You can define yourself with something other than your mental health condition. Your condition is part of you. At least this is what I believe.

I have OCD, I’ve had anxiety, postpartum depression, et cetera, and I don’t think those things define me, right? When I put on my eyeliner, it really starts to define my eyes, doesn’t it? I can’t do a before and after because I already put it on both eyes.

I’m not going to let my OCD define me. I’m not going to let anxiety define me. I’m going to let this eyeliner define me. If black eyeliner can do that for you, it’s not going to solve the world’s problems, and it’s certainly not going to be a magic bullet for any kind of mental health condition. But it can help.
